Reflections on Writing Christmas at Starlight Lake
Wow! What a month! October has been full of excitement for me as Christmas at Starlight Lake has officially launched into the world. This is always an exciting moment for a writer when the story, characters, and world are finally in the reader’s hands.
Writing this book felt a little like stepping into a snow globe with cozy cabins, frosty nights, twinkling lights, and plenty of holiday magic.
Inspiration Behind the Story:
When I imagined the bubbly bathtub scene first, I knew I had to figure out who these people were. Why were they in a snowed-in cabin? At Christmas? That single “what if” grew into the heart of my Christmas love story, Christmas at Starlight Lake.
Some Fun Behind-the-Scenes Tidbits:
Writing Clemmie’s creative projects (like the handmade tree topper) made me think of all the times I’ve crafted my own holiday decorations. You know I can’t resist a craft (or ten!)
The ice cream shop, TJ’s Sweet Shoppe, was inspired by the Gifford’s ice cream shop of my childhood. I still miss their hot fudge!
I couldn’t resist a snowball fight scene because nothing says Christmas romance like a playful snowball fight!
What Readers are Saying:
Reader feedback has been so heartwarming. Many of you told me the book reminded you of your favorite Hallmark movies or family holiday traditions. That’s exactly what I hoped this book would be. I wanted something to make you smile, laugh, and maybe even tear up a little. Hearing that my story brought you comfort and joy this season is the best gift I could receive!
What’s Next?:
While Christmas at Starlight Lake is a standalone, it won’t be the last Christmas romance I write. I already have a few more Christmas love stories stirring in my imagination. Who knows what holiday love stories Santa might have tucked in his sleigh next year?
If you’ve read Christmas at Starlight Lake, I’d love to hear your favorite moment. Drop me a comment, tag me on Instagram, or send me an email. I truly love connecting with readers. It makes all the long hours at the desk worthwhile!
